This unit covers the Twentieth through the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost in Lectionary Year A. During this unit students will understand the importance of living out what God says, serving God only, how to live by faith and not sight, and God as our Shepherd.

Lesson 1: Are You Keeping Your Eye on the Ball?-- God deals harshly with teachers and leaders who lose their focus and do good things for selfish gain. In this lesson students will learn that those who claim to have heard from God must also live out what God says. The Bible gives specific examples of the kinds of actions to beware of in the lives of leaders and in our own lives (Micah 3:5-12; Psalm 43; 1 Thessalonians 2:9-13; Matthew 23:1-12).

Lesson 2: Who Are You REALLY Serving?--The theme of this lesson is that in view of God's faithfulness, Joshua leads the Israelites to make a promise to reject other gods and choose to serve the Lord. Joshua cautions them that this is not a trivial choice, nor is it possible to have both, they must choose one or the other for our God is a jealous God (Joshua 24:1-3a, 14-25; Psalm 78:1-7; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Matthew 25:1-13).

Lesson 3: Living By Faith--God calls us to make the most of our lives for His kingdom s sake. In the parable, during the Master s absence, the servants act according to what they believed about Him. Jesus says it is the same with us. In this lesson students will learn that we live now by faith, believing in a God we cannot see. Someday, we will see Him, and He will examine how we lived by faith (Zephaniah 1:1-7, 12-18; Psalm 90:1-12; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11; Matthew 25:14-30).

Lesson 4: The Lord is Our Shepherd-- God speaks of judgment like a shepherd separating out his flock, one kind from another. There is a great tension between the Shepherd's love for his sheep and his justice. In this lesson students will learn that God cares for us but He also judges us.
