This unit covers the Fourth through the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost in Lectionary Year A. During this unit students will understand how God s Word guides us, the faithfulness of God s presence in our lives, godly wisdom, and the changing power of prayer.

Lesson 1: Trading Places--This lesson helps students understand that God has given us His Spirit and His Word to guide us, but there are many obstacles, distractions, and detours that can lead us away from the fullness that He has for us.(Genesis 25:19-34; Psalm 119:105-112; Romans 8:1-11; Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23).

Lesson 2: How Well Do You Know Me?-- In the midst of fleeing for his life, Jacob discovers that God reveals himself in unexpected times and places. It wasn't that God suddenly showed up, but He was there all along, and Jacob, like us, was unaware of His presence. In this lesson students will learn that God is faithfully present in our lives, searching our hearts, and He is with us in the midst of the "weeds" of evil (Genesis 28:10-19a, Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24, Romans 8:12-25, Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43).

Lesson 3: Wisdom-- Solomon chose wisdom over riches, power, and victory. The ability to judge situations rightly and make good choices is a priceless ability. In this lesson students will learn that God is willing to give wisdom to those who ask for it--and their lives are blessed by it (1 Kings 3:5-12, Psalm 119:129-136, Romans 8:26-39, Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52).

Lesson 4: WWG - Wrestling with God-- Jacob wrestled with God, and in the process received a new identity, a blessing, and saw the Lord.In this lesson students will learn that if we choose to wrestle with God in prayer, we will be changed by the experience (Genesis 32:22-31, Psalm 17:1-7, 15, Romans 9:1-5 Matthew 14:13-21).
